His professional focus includes a strong interest in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care Transportation, ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), and vascular access procedures. Hugo has recently developed a keen interest in integrative medicine, which involves combining Western medical practices with alternative healing methods.

In addition to his passion for integrative medicine, Hugo also has a profound fascination with diagnostic procedures and services related to the heart and lungs.

Hugo has a rich history as an instructor, teaching life-saving techniques for nearly 20 years. He is certified to instruct Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support for Experienced Providers (ACLS-EP), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), and Tactical Medicine (TACMED), with experience in the South African Police Services special units.

Furthermore, Hugo actively engages in continuing professional development (CPD) activities, delivering educational sessions on various Critical Care and Emergency Medicine topics. His teaching career began in the academic setting at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, where he trained aspiring Critical Care Technologists, Nurses, and Doctors across different specialized units, including Intensive Care, Theatre (Anaesthetic Assistance), High Care, Pulmonology, and the Emergency Department.

Beyond his hospital-based expertise, Hugo boasts over 20 years of experience in the pre-hospital emergency medical care arena. He has served in primary response, ambulance, and air response services within both government and private emergency medical services.

Notably, Hugo brings a wealth of business experience in the Healthcare Environment. He has held directorial roles in several medical service and ambulance companies, including his involvement as a founding member of LifeMed Ambulance Service, which continues to operate successfully, and the establishment of International Medical Services. Hugo also had a dream of bringing resuscitationists together by means of a conference.  This dream became a reality when he co-ordinated a commitee of 9 members and the Masters of Resuscitation 2023 conference (7 - 9 Sept) attracted more than 300 delegates and offered 4 different pre-conference events and more that 40 top faculty and speakers.

Looking ahead, Hugo is set to embark on his Ph.D. journey in 2024, further advancing his contributions to the field of healthcare and emergency medicine.
